Russian billionheiress designs collection...meh

What happens when extremely wealthy lady, Ulyana Sergeenko, whom exists in vacuum designs collection?  It's kind of a bummer she's getting so much press for such underwhelming and creepily classist designs.

What is with the peasant garb?!  This has got to be exoticism for the extremely wealthy, who wants to wear peasant couture.  These designs are infuriating.  There seems to be a strong visual of the historical anicdotes of when Marie Antoinette used to dress up in shepherds clothes and parade around her grounds.

Marni pre-Fall 2013

I'm loving the more 'boyish' silhouettes and jackets!  Wouldn't it be nice to see some trending away from an overly feminine silhouette, and to see more tailoring, hardware, and print combo's!  I hope this is a sign of things to come.

Modern Aquarium

The New York Times did a slide show and story on our domestic relationships with bacteria and fungi.  The article focuses on the "growing movement to integrate organic processes in the creation of buildings and household objects so that resources are conserved and waste is limited"-Julie Lasky

I love this idea, and hope it gets even more traction in the design world.   I think it makes 'green' decisions much more palatable to people who might not necessarily be drawn to a cause, but rather aesthetic choices.  Often times 'green' choices are reflected in design with overly earnest sensibilities, that I find awkward and sentimental.   Fashion, I admit,  is one of the worst culprits of this.  Work such as the piece above by Mathieu Lehanneur  transcend that grey area of moralizing and propaganda should you choose to enjoy it solely for your viewing pleasure.

Givenchy Pre-Fall '13

Givenchy Pre-Fall '13 has me twitching with delight!  Well done Mr. Tisci.  Wonderful palette, streamlined and well thought use of color and texture blocking.  I am in awe of his ability to approach brand so heavily associated with excess with such a restrained hand, this is what I think of when I imagine 'luxury' garments.
